The China Triangle with Sichuan learning program suits many schools interested in visiting Chengdu and exploring Sichuan Province. 

 

The program can also be altered to spend more time in Sichuan Province and fly home directly to Australia from Chengdu or fly into Beijing without visiting Xian. For some schools an extension into Tibet is also an option. Please ask us for more information

Tour Itinerary

China Triangle and Sichuan Tour

Day 1: Australia – Shanghai

Arrive in Shanghai, located at the mouth of the Yangtze River. Shanghai is the No.1 metropolis in China and reputed as the “Paris of the Orient”. Shanghai attracts you with the smart way she interweaves the West and East, ancient and modern.

Meet our representative on arrival and transfer by private coach to your hotel. A snack pack is prepared upon arrival. Dinner is arranged for this evening.

Day 2: Shanghai

After breakfast at your hotel, make your way to The Bund and start your tour*. Admire the views of Pudong across the river and embrace the city skyline, appreciating the diverse architectural buildings (Gothic, Baroque, Rome, Renaissance, Classic and Mixed Eastern and Western style). If you wish, you can visit the Shanghai World Financial Centre for the most amazing views of Shanghai  from their 474 meter high platform.

Next stop is the over 400-year-old Yuyuan Garden, the representative ancient garden in Shanghai. Here you have about 1.5 hours to appreciate the elegant pavilions, villa, lotus pond and bridges. Don’t miss the two highlights Mid-Lake Pavilion and Zigzag Bridge that provide access to the Pavilion. Enjoy wandering through the market stalls and souvenir shops that surround the gardens. Lunch is not included today but can be arranged at the local dumpling house located at the Yuyuan Gardens.

In the afternoon, visit Shanghai Museum. Reputed as one the top museums in China, the Shanghai Museum is a museum of Chinese ancient art with a collection of 120,000 precious Chinese works of art and archaeological findings. It has 11 state-of-the-art galleries and 3 special exhibition halls, all encircling a spacious cylindrical atrium. Head back to your hotel for some leisure time before this evenings activities.

Tonight, enjoy a buffet dinner in the revolving restaurant at Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower, a TV tower in Shanghai. The 468 m (1,535 feet) high tower stands by the east bank of Huangpu River, opposite to the Bund. Currently the tower is ranked as the 5th tallest tower in the world, and the 3rd tallest tower in Asia.

Day 3: Shanghai – Chengdu

After breakfast take your private transfer to the airport for your flight to Chengdu. Chengdu is richly endowed with fantastic natural resources and historical heritages. Within the city itself numbers of ancient temples, parks and cultural relics teach you the time-honoured past of the city.

Upon arrival meet our representative and take your private transfer to the hotel and check in.

In the afternoon, visit the Wuhou Memorial Temple, which is built as a tribute to Zhuge Liang, the Martial Marquis of Shu during the Three Kingdoms Period. You may stroll around the peaceful and attractive gardens, and visit several halls, including one dedicated to his memory and another to that of his emperor Liu Bei. Then you will learn more about China ancient culture.

Explore Jinli Old Street and the local tea house, arts, crafts and snacks. In the traditional street atmosphere enjoy the delicious Sichuan food and snacks and learn the local remarkable folk culture with your guide.

Day 4: Chengdu – Xian

After an early breakfast at your hotel check out and board your private coach, travel to Ya’an and visit the Bifengxia Panda Breeding Centre. This is the world’s largest giant panda’s park and the best place to see Pandas in the natural environment they inhabit.

You will then transfer to Chengdu airport for your flight to Xian, the cradle of Chinese civilization and the centre of prehistory culture. As it’s the capital of 13 ancient dynasties in China, which date back to 1200 years ago and the starting point of the Silk Road, Xian is blessed with numerous marvellous historical and cultural relics. It has been honoured as a World Historic City by the UNESCO in 1981.

Upon arrival, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel. Check in and enjoy dinner at your hotel this evening.

Day 5: Xian

After breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide and take your private coach transfer to one of the great wonders of the world – the life-like Terracotta Warriors, who have gone through the trial of time of over 2,200 years but still stand in their position for guarding the Emperor Qin Shihuang.

There are three exhibition halls to visit plus additional displays and information which will be explained in detail by your experienced guide. As you wander back to your coach there is an opportunity to buy some lunch or some souvenirs.

Make your way back to Xian and a leisurely stroll on the Ancient City Wall (or if you prefer, a bike ride* which is popular with many schools).  It is the best preserved City Wall of this kind in China, with a height of 12 meters and width (upper part) of 15 meters. With excellent views of Xian, you can ponder the history of China or of this ancient city Xi’an. You may also have a chance to ride a bike on the wall. *(no helmet is provided)

Tonight enjoy a tasty Chinese dumpling dinner! Dumplings come in different shapes and different fillings, some even with special propitious meanings.

Day 6: Xian – Beijing

After breakfast at your hotel visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist temple built in 652A.D. You can enjoy the architectural elegance of the Buddhist buildings, as well as discover the legend of Hierarch Xuanzang and his 16-year pilgrimage to India for the Buddhist culture. Afterwards, take a short walk to the Muslim Quarter, the main gathering place for the local Muslim community, seeing the exotic shops, snacks and souvenirs.

In the afternoon transfer to the station for the fast train to Beijing. On arrival you will be met by our representative and then transferred to your hotel.

Dinner is own arrangements tonight.

Day 7: Beijing

After breakfast at your hotel you will visit Tiananmen Square to start your Beijing tour. Strolling round the large square, you will see Beijing with ancient and modern elements. It is also where Mao Tse-tung raised the flag of the People’s Republic of China. The Square is surrounded by imposing buildings such as the National Museum of China, and the Great Hall of the People where visiting head of states are entertained.

As you leave the square, walk north to the Forbidden City. As the largest and best-preserved imperial palace in China, it vividly indulges you with a whole impression of the royal life and your guide will be a source of great information of the history across many Dynasties.

In the afternoon visit Summer Palace. You will appreciate this Chinese featured royal park, which boasts of typical Chinese architecture and splendid landscapes. Enjoy a cruise on Kunming Lake. Return to your hotel later this afternoon.

The evening activity is also wonderful – Chinese Kung Fu Show! You can even take photos with the performers after the show.

Day 8: Beijing

After breakfast at your hotel your guide will meet you at reception and take you to the Great Wall of China for a tour of the Mutianyu section. Take the round-trip cable car to see this vital section of the world famous China Great Wall, Mutianyu has a storied history of over 1400 years and can be traced back to Northern Qi Dynasty (550-570). Return later this afternoon to your hotel in Beijing and check in, enjoy some leisure time before dinner. Tonight’s dinner is Chinese famous Peking Roast Duck.

After breakfast at your hotel enjoy some free time before your private transfer to the airport for your flight home.
