Visit the Hutongs of Beijing, wander through the streets with your guide learning the history of the area. Stop at a local house, play Mahjong and drink tea while hearing about the daily life of a Beijing local. Visit the Drum Tower among many other fascinating stops on this 2 hour wander.

This afternoon, head back to the Chongwenmen business district (where your hotel is located) and see the commercial Beijing, walk through the nearby shopping centres and grab a local snack. Dinner tonight is at a nearby restaurant or at your hotel.

Our preferred Beijing hotel is located in the Chongwenmen district close to Tiananmen Square, a business district well known for its shopping and restaurants. Subject to flight arrival times. Our preference is an overnight flight that will have you arriving at your Beijing hotel mid to late morning

Day 2: Beijing
Walk to Tiananmen Square from your hotel (2 kms) with your guide, spend time wandering the large open spaces and reflecting on its place in history as a result of the 1989 student–led demonstrations. From here make your way to the Forbidden City, wander through the gardens and temples as your guide explains the fascinating history of the Last Emperor.

Meet your coach and visit a local restaurant for lunch before arriving at the Summer Palace to explore the grounds with your guide, one of the most culturally important sites in Beijing.

After a big day of walking, your coach will return you to your hotel for some free time before dinner this evening. After dinner we recommend a visit to the Beijing street food market, a 20 min walk form your hotel (self-guided).

Day 3: Beijing
An early start this morning as you make your way by coach to the Great Wall (Mutiyanu section). Begun during the Qin Dynasty and continued throughout the Ming Dynasty the Great Wall covers more than 6,000 kms with spectacular views everywhere you look. Walk along the renovated section of the Wall before returning by cable car (or toboggan!) to your coach for the return to Beijing.

Arrive at the Temple of Heaven. Explore the local area before entering the Temple and you will see the locals practising Tai Chi, Kung Fu, and Meditation which are a key aspect to daily local life. Practice your water calligraphy on the temple rocks before you enter, it’s a great photo opportunity.  Return to your hotel before dinner and Kung Fu show at the Red Theatre this evening, a highlight of your trip.

Arrive in Xian at 5.30am and meet your representative once you collect your bags. Make your way by coach to the hotel to drop your bags and have breakfast.

Make your way by coach to the site of the Terracotta Warriors, one of the most important archaeological finds in our time. Built by Emperor Qui Shi Huangdi, your guide will explain the history of the site and ongoing effort to unearth yet more warriors from underground burial chambers in the region. As you make your way back to the coach there are many opportunities for souvenirs or to buy a snack.

Xian has a strong Islamic influence as a base for the many Muslim merchants as they travelled the Silk Road. Pick up your bicycles and enjoy a one hour tour of the area, including a ride on the City Wall before returning to your hotel for some rest before dinner. After dinner, visit the Muslim street food area (self-guided)* to sample some local after dinner delicacies.
