China Classic
This is our most popular China learning program and can be amended to suit school preferences
The China Classic program is designed for schools considering an immersion program suitable for students of all ages. The program can be fully guided, or guides can be selected for specific days according to the experience of the lead teacher.
Inclusions

Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Beijing
Visit the Hutongs of Beijing, wander through the streets with your guide learning the history of the area. Stop at a local house, play Mahjong and drink tea while hearing about the daily life of a Beijing local. Visit the Drum Tower among many other fascinating stops on this 2 hour wander.
This afternoon, head back to the Chongwenmen business district (where your hotel is located) and see the commercial Beijing, walk through the nearby shopping centres and grab a local snack. Dinner tonight is at a nearby restaurant or at your hotel.
Our preferred Beijing hotel is located in the Chongwenmen district close to Tiananmen Square, a business district well known for its shopping and restaurants. Subject to flight arrival times. Our preference is an overnight flight that will have you arriving at your Beijing hotel mid to late morning

Day 2: Beijing
Meet your coach and visit a local restaurant for lunch before arriving at the Summer Palace to explore the grounds with your guide, one of the most culturally important sites in Beijing.
After a big day of walking, your coach will return you to your hotel for some free time before dinner this evening. After dinner we recommend a visit to the Beijing street food market, a 20 min walk form your hotel (self-guided).

Day 3: Beijing
Arrive at the Temple of Heaven. Explore the local area before entering the Temple and you will see the locals practising Tai Chi, Kung Fu, and Meditation which are a key aspect to daily local life. Practice your water calligraphy on the temple rocks before you enter, it’s a great photo opportunity. Return to your hotel before dinner and Kung Fu show at the Red Theatre this evening, a highlight of your trip.

Day 4: Beijing - Xian
Sleepers are 4 berth cabins. Train travel in sleeper carriages is safe, however for additional security measures we recommend reserving entire cabins. Please ask us for more details. We recommend you purchase some food for the train journey as food options onboard are limited.

Day 5: Xian
Make your way by coach to the site of the Terracotta Warriors, one of the most important archaeological finds in our time. Built by Emperor Qui Shi Huangdi, your guide will explain the history of the site and ongoing effort to unearth yet more warriors from underground burial chambers in the region. As you make your way back to the coach there are many opportunities for souvenirs or to buy a snack.
Xian has a strong Islamic influence as a base for the many Muslim merchants as they travelled the Silk Road. Pick up your bicycles and enjoy a one hour tour of the area, including a ride on the City Wall before returning to your hotel for some rest before dinner. After dinner, visit the Muslim street food area (self-guided)* to sample some local after dinner delicacies.
Our preferred hotel in Xian is located within walking distance to Muslim Road Street Markets. If another hotel is chosen we will advise you, as you may prefer to visit Muslim Street after your Cycle Tour.

Day 6: Xian - Shanghai
Arrive in Shanghai*, meet your guide on arrival and transfer to your hotel. After check in, wander along Nanjing Road (self guided)** taking in the sights and sounds of one of the world’s largest cities before arriving at The Bund. Enjoy spectacular views of Pudong District before returning to your hotel at your leisure. Dinner is at own arrangements this evening, there are many choices as you wander along Nanjing Road
Our preferred hotel is located within walking distance to Nanjing Road and The Bund. If another hotel is chosen, we will advise you as a hotel shuttle transfer pick up/drop off may be possible

Day 7: Shanghai
Wander on to Yu Gardens for lunch at our favourite dumpling house before visiting the 500 year old gardens. Spend some time at the old town market stalls picking up a few souvenirs and soaking up the atmosphere. Return to your hotel for some leisure time before dinner at your hotel.
Our preferred hotel is located within walking distance to People’s Square. If another hotel is chosen, we will advise you as a hotel shuttle transfer pick up/drop off may be possible

Day 8: Shanghai
Take your guided tour of this fascinating production plant in suburban Shanghai, seeing how robots and humans interact seamlessly as they manufacture vehicles at all stages of construction. The attention to ensuring safety for workers and to the environment is an unexpected highlight and you will have the opportunity to ask questions to your guide as you take your tour.
Return to your hotel for some leisure time before dinner this evening at a local restaurant.

Day 9: Shanghai
After lunch, the remainder of the day is allocated as leisure. This is a great time to pick up last-minute gifts or relax before your final dinner this evening.
